Silly Sara Spins a Tale
Hear our "sheepish" puppet tell the story about the Perkins House Kids. This story will include  a tour of the Perkins House.  After the story the students will make a wooly craft.   
Program Length:  1 hour. Gr K - 1

Captain Jack's Adventures on the High Seas
Privateering for children. Students will learn the difference between pirates and  privateers through the interactive storytelling by Captain Jack Seagull of Perkins' own fleet. This program begins with a tour of the Perkins House and ends with a take home craft for the students. 
Program Length: 1 hour. Gr K - 2

Children at Play
An interactive discussion of children's roles in the household, including play time, chores and social life. Followed by a hands on activity with toys and games of the Colonial  and Victorian Periods.  From spinning tops to noise makers you're sure to have fun learning about these games. Program Length:  1 hour. Gr K - 4

What's It ??
Using items from the museum collection, your class will observe and reason to identify the items and their uses.  This is a fun way to have show and tell.   Program Length  1 hour. Gr K - 4

Evolution of the Mi'kmaq Culture
How did the early Mi'kmaq make a pot of soup?  Discover the answer to this and more as we adventure our way  into our Mi'kmaq diorama. Experience the feel of actual stone tools and how they were used in comparison to their modern day equivalents.  
Program Length:  1 hour.  Gr K - 2

Wool Spinning
Discover this common domestic activity of the 18th century. Observe and learn how the wool made its way from the sheep to your favorite pair of mittens. Students will also get to make a wooly craft.    Program Length: 45 minutes. Gr K - 4

What’s Changed- A Walking Tour for Children.
This walking tour will detail changes in the street scape of Liverpool. Using old photographs and exploration students will compare and contrast life in Liverpool past and present. Each tour will be structured to the age of the group.

So Ye Wanna Be a Pirate??
Enter the world of the Pirate. Where did they hide all that treasure? Did Pirates make their captives "walk the plank"? Learn Pirate duties  and living conditions. Pirate puzzles and games.
Program Length:  1 hour. Gr K - 5

Early Medicine
See actual medical instruments from the 1700's and hear how they were used by Perkins Family Physician, Dr. Falt. Using student volunteers we'll compare and contrast older Medieval medical treatments to Dr. Falt's treatments and to  today's treatments.    
Program Length: 1 hour. Gr 1 - 6

Technological Change in Your Community
How did Mom do the laundry a hundred years ago?  Using examples from the Museum collection, students will discover through observation and practical experience the progression of everyday household implements. Hands on demonstrations of "beating" a carpet, using a washboard and the push lawn mower.
Program Length:  1 hour. Gr 1 - 2

In Class Programs
An interpreter from the Queens County Museum/Perkins House will visit school classes in the local area to present any of the programs.  Students can see a variety of artifacts and learn about various disciplines in all of the programs.  Activities can be combined or adapted to meet a variety of ages levels or areas of study.

Diary of a Merchant
Using excerpts from the Perkins Diary as guides,  students will   interpret a day in the life of merchant Simeon Perkins by  making their own diary entries and  presenting them to their fellow classmates. Included in the program are a take home diary and practical experience with quill  pens and ink. The students will partner to learn the colonial pastime of silhouette drawing.
Program Length: 1.5 hours. Gr 2 - 6

Mi'kmaq Medicine
Using live and dried plant specimens, students will experience through hands on activity and interactive discussion the tradition of turning local plants and herbs into medicine by the people of the Mi'kmaq culture.
Program Length:  1 hour.   Gr 3 - 6

Lawn Bowls and Pall Mall
Lawn Bowls and Pall Mall (Croquet) were favourite outdoor activities in the 1700's.  Perhaps Simeon  and Elizabeth played these games with their family on the Perkins House Lawn. Learn to play these games. You could  organize your own tournament.
The Museum grounds are environmentally friendly. We are proud to say no pesticides or herbicides are used on our lawns or gardens.

CSI Kids
Beginning with lessons in the scientific methods of Criminal Forensics, the student  will then use these techniques and their  keen observation to process a crime scene and solve the Missing Book Mystery.  This program contains hands on activities in Forensic Techniques including substance identification, dental impressions and crime scene excavation.
Program Length:  1.5 hours. Gr 4 - 6

The Stones Shall Speak
A Costumed Interpreter will lead your class through Liverpool's Old Burial Ground. Using excerpts from the Perkins Diary you will discover the burial practices of the times. Why are some bodies buried in the middle of busy streets? Did you know children acted as pall bearers? Hear the tragic stories of some of our founding families.
Program Length: 1.5  hour.   Gr 4 - 12
