Privateering Exhibit

Liverpool is well known for being the Port of Privateers. The Privateers were private citizens who, after receiving a Letter of Marque from the crown, armed their vessels and attacked enemy ships on the high seas. Liverpool was the home of many Privateering vessels, such as  the Liverpool Packet, thus the Queens County Museum houses an extraordinary collection of privateering artifacts, such as an original Letter of Marque, a sea services pistol and a cutlass.

Banking Exhibit

In the past, Liverpool had its own bank called the Bank of Liverpool (1871-1879). The Bank of Liverpool issued only one series of bills and they were all dated 1st November, 1871. A second bank, the Bank of Acadia (1872-1873) lasted only 3 months and 26 days in Liverpool. Some of these original bills are on display at the Queens County Museum today!
